Walnut

Walnut species are found around the world and find popularity on many tables. The black walnut (Juglans nigra) is native to the Eastern United States and with its thick shell demands some labor to extract its nutmeat. The Persian Walnut (Juglans regia), also known as the English and Carpathian Walnut, has a much thinner shell, but many varieties are susceptible to leaf blights that limit their productivity in the humid east. The Heartnut is a variation of the Japanese Walnut (Juglans ailantifolia) that has a hard shell, but distinct seam along the edge where it will crack cleanly. Persian walnut and heartnut graft successfully onto black walnut rootstock. We have a number of walnut varietals listed on the left.
