B B Grainger #1 stands for Bernhiem/ Blankenship Grainger #1 one of several seedlings collected by Fred Blankenship by permission from the Bernhiem Arboretum in Kentucky. Several seedlings were collected underneath a large Grainger tree and from those, 2 were selected as having excellent qualities. #1 is large and ripens early. It shells easily into halves and Mr. Blankenship feels it is equal to the original Grainger in flavor and shelling quality. Some consider it better than Grainger
